Go for a walk in the city on any busy street and chances are most people you encounter will be looking down. Engrossed in that little 4 inch screen. Isn’t it incredible how one little device can invite that much interest?
Sometimes, all it takes to make a difference to our day, week or life, is to simply … look up.
Whether you’re consumed with a seemingly impossible problem to solve; or wondering what step to take next in work, life or love; or entangled in drama that you’re wondering how on earth you got involved with … can I please suggest one thing … that you stop what ever it is that you’re doing and look up. Physically and metaphorically speaking.
Take a break. Find a quiet space in the park, on the beach, in your backyard, on the balcony, or in the comfort of your home laying on the couch with your gaze stretched out the window. No matter where you find yourself in that horizontal state, take a moment to look up. Watch the clouds go by. Gaze. Wonder. Imagine. Feed your creativity. And every time you catch yourself jumping to a conclusion, STOP! Irrespective of how small the conclusion is. Whether it’s “x, y or z is wrong with me” or “it won’t be good enough” or “they won’t like it” or “I’ll never go there, do that, or be able to achieve that” or “that only happens to ‘other’ people” or “I’m too old” or “I’m too young” or any of the other zillion conclusions that you may make during the day. Please stop jumping to conclusions. Instead, ask questions. Look up. What if it’s not as bad as you think?
