MY SECRET TO A GENKI LIFE:
Every day I’m learning to love better. Myself and those around me. Self-care is this big buzz word at the moment, so it sounds cliché but it’s true, you cant give from an empty cup, so I make sure to check in regularly and ask “what do I need right now?” What’s the most nourishing thing I can do for myself? I have an arsenal of herbs, supplements, teas, potions, elixirs, essential oils and other plant based magic that I utilise daily. Also music and the ocean, I’ll literally crave a certain song, or an hour in the ocean on a board. Music and nature are two of the greatest healers.
My big lesson right now is learning to “love everything (or everyone) all the time”, especially when you find it difficult! When you learn to love yourself, that begins to happen organically, it overflows. If I find myself judging someone, I try to ask where I’m not fully accepting myself, just as I am, where I am, doing my best as a human being. Usually there’s a parallel.
Also having awareness around engrained thought patterns and negative self talk, the more times you catch yourself and are able to reframe, the stronger the new neural pathways become, ones that serve you, you literally rewire your brain. So be gentle with yourself. And don’t ever hesitate to do something that fills you up, the whole world benefits from it. You hold the power to make your life beautiful and it’s a ripple effect.
Another liberating thing I’ve realised, only recently, is that wellbeing is like riding a bike. When you feel yourself losing balance, you lean a little the other way and find your balance again. And sometimes you’re more wobbly than others, and it takes a little more to come back to equilibrium. And the more connected you become with your body, the more you practice noticing the subtle and then not so subtle cues it gives you, the better you become at it. And the bad days … we all have them, it’s part of being human and they can teach us compassion and humility if we just soften and go with it.
