The fact is … we eat way more than we need to. Modern life is such that we rarely go ‘without’. Whether it’s being able to purchase our favourites all year round, be that berries, watermelon or pumpkins, forgetting the relevance and relishment of eating seasonally; or having three hearty meals each day; it’s simply not the optimum choice for the health and wellbeing of our body.
Personally, I love the ’16 – 8′ method, whereby I fast for 16 hours a day, drinking plenty of water and herbal tea. And then eating between the hours of midday and 8pm. It gives my body a chance to digest and ‘clean house’.
And then, as the seasons change I love to ramp things up and give my body an extra chance to focus on healing and repair, by fasting for 3 to 5 days.
Over the years I’ve experimented with all sorts of fasts: everything from 10 days of water only, through to juices with the assistance of herbs, charcoal and colonics.
Each season I love to try something different to see how my body responds. But my favourite fast, if I’m having to maintain my day-to-day work, is to consume fresh cold-pressed juices for 3 days: fruit juices at noon, and vegetable juices in the evening. Plus a couple of litres of water and herbal tea in between. After 3 days I feel brighter, lighter, more focused, more energetic, and have a renewed healthy glow in my complexion.
To fast, is to strengthen. To fast, allows the body to eliminate toxic build up. To fast, is to give the immune system a reboot. It is one of the most beneficial rituals you can implement in to your life.
