I read something the other day that has stuck like glue to the forefront of my mind and it goes a little something like this:
Every time you say YES to something, you’re saying NO to a whole list of other things.
And the things you’re saying NO to, are most likely things that nourish your soul, de-stress your mind, and fill your heart with joy.
Call me ‘slow’, call me ‘daft’, but this one hit me hard like a mack truck.
I’m a big YES person. I’ll sign up for things and then wonder how on earth my days and weeks fly by with little time to do the soul-nourishing things that I love, like laying on my verandah to read a chapter of a book.
So, in the pursuit of my sanity remaining intact, I am taking a radical change of action in my life, to learn the art of saying, NO.
This doesn’t mean that I’m going to be doing diddly squat. It is more so a shift in focus to be a little more discerning before saying YES to a whole bunch of things that really and truly aren’t what I’d like to say YES to.
What do you say YES to? that when the time comes around you wish you had said NO to, as it either:
a. depletes your energy and joy for life; or fuels resentment or upset in your life
b. prevents you from spending time with your loved ones or doing things that you love
c. is not something that interests you whatsoever, but felt pressured to say YES to.
What if saying NO, is actually saying YES to a whole lot more joy?
